Participation in high school sports increased for the 21st consecutive school year in 2009-10. California is second behind Texas in combined participation at 771,465 student-athletes. Football is the most popular sport nationwide for boys, while outdoor track and field is most favorite sport for girls (9/8/10)
CIF Signs Partnership Deal with
Home Team Marketing
The Cleveland-based company, which specializes in delivering fully-integrated advertising

The CIF Executive Committee has implemented new procedures that will affect the upcoming 2010-11 baseball season. As a result, the CIF State Office created

**California Commission on Teacher Credentialing**
In order to help mitigate the costs for school districts associated with conducting another DOJ and FBI background check, the DOJ will be offering a one-time only opportunity where school districts can obtain a FBI ONLY background check for these employees or volunteers in order to comply with the provisions of AB 346.
The timeframe to be able to take advantage of this offer is September 1 - December 31, 2010. The cost associated with the FBI background check is $19 for classified employees and $15 for volunteers plus the fingerprint rolling fee charged by the live scan site.
Basketball and Wrestling Rules Interpretation Meetings For Officials
Basketball and wrestling officials are requested to attend one of the upcoming mandatory rule interpretation meetings. These meetings are crucial to statewide consistency in the interpretation and application of the rules in your respective sport. (updated 8/27/10)

Sports Authority Named Official Sporting Goods Retailer of CIF
The partnership teams CIF and its member schools with the state's largest full-line sporting goods retailer. The deal provides every member school and its students with exclusive savings at any of the nearly 70 California Sports Authority stores and includes a marketing relationship that contributes revenue to all CIF Sections. CIF Announces Staff Change
Jill Culbertson has accepted the position of CIF Tournaments and Technology Assistant. Culbertson will assist with all state and regional championships in addition to helping CIF member schools with all of the CIF education programs. (8/5/10)

High School Licensing Royalties
CIF-member schools have the opportunity to raise much-needed funds by simply agreeing to license their school names, logos and mascots. The CIF has entered into a "pilot" program with Licensing Resource Group (LRG). LRG has entered into an agreement with large "box" stores such as Walmart which sell merchandise using our school names, logos and mascots. They will collect any royalties from the sale of your school merchandise and it will be passed on to your school on a yearly basis from CIF.

All Coaches, paid or unpaid, must be certified in Coaches Education by December 31, 2008. Coaches can now become certified online for $52 or in a classroom setting by one of California's Instructors. Click the links below for more information.

"Fundamentals of Coaching" is a general coaching course that will count towards CIF certification. It is listed under core courses at the NFHS web site. Please note that the courses at the NFHS site with a specific sport name attached WILL NOT count for this certification. The above link will take you directly to the correct course.

The Case for High School Activities ...
At a cost of only one to three percent (or less in many cases) of an overall
school's budget, high school activity programs are one of the best bargains around.
It is in these vital programs where young people learn lifelong lessons
as important as those taught in the classroom.
School administrators are encouraged to look at the following link on the

CIF Handbooks For Transfer Eligibility Bylaws
Statewide bylaws are now in effect regarding high school student-athlete
transfer eligibility. The following handbooks are provided as guidelines to assist in understanding the transfer eligibility standards and the process that CIF-member
schools and administrators follow in determining transfer eligibility.
These handbooks should not be considered as a legal reference and are
merely guidelines to better understanding of CIF Transfer Eligibility.
